·  A Resolution to Resolutions - By Julie Hartman, Creative Guru

What is it about January looming in the distance that causes us to feel obligated to make resolutions? Are we really that broken and mixed up that we need to pour all of our short-comings into a laundry list of to-do items that will eventually fall underneath the stove only to gather dust? How many nights have you been unable to sleep, mid-October, with thoughts of unresolved, unachieved resolutions running through your mind like ghosts in the night?

A resolution list, if it is going to be encouraging, is about 'being', not 'doing'. For example, "In 2004, I resolve to be more proactive, or you fill in the blank ." We'll expand on this one at greater length in next month's newsletter. But for now, I propose that we create a new type of list to jump-start 2004. It is the new millennium, so why not be brave and create an "I like this about myself and vow to add one new item each month" list. How much more empowered do you feel when thinking about that kind of a list versus resolutions. I would much prefer to see a list of qualities I admire in myself hanging on my refrigerator rather than a list reminding me to keep my toilets cleaner and be nicer to my in-laws.

·  Fundamentals of Networking- By Carlton SooHoo, Chief Possibility Officer

Eat and drink before you go so that you are not caught with food or drink in your mouth, or the dreaded food particles in your teeth. Maximize your time available to network. If you do have food in your mouth, avoid spitting it at your conversation partner. Be sensitive when speaking with someone who is eating and don't make them talk while they are chewing. Better yet, network with people who are not actively chewing.

If another person walks up, do not ignore them, but invite them into the discussion. If the person you are talking to is boring, this is a great way to create a group of three and prepare for excusing yourself.

·  ENewsletters 101- Creating ENewsletters That Don't Get Deleted

It's common lore in the sales industry that you need to "touch your prospects" at least SEVEN times before they buy from you. Electronic newsletters are one of the most easy and effective ways to get your message to your clients, prospects, networking contacts, and partners, many times on a consistent basis.

Previously, "professional looking" newsletters required mastery of complex software combined with graphic design talent. This is no longer the case with Constant ContactTM's powerful web-based newsletter system. In this live demonstration seminar, bring your list of company events and I'll show you how to create a very professional looking newsletter in a matter of minutes. This seminar includes a 30-minute business consultation to get your newsletter on its way.
