Camp Auntie Fish
A couple weeks ago, I picked up my two girls from "Camp
Auntie Fish" in Western Massachusetts.
They had a glorious week of swimming, s'mores, and fun in the sun. Days
were overflowing with traditional activities such as crafts and
campfires and a few things you don't find at every camp.
Camp activities for my girls included:
-
a larger-than-life game
of Candy Land
-
a visit to ten-foot-tall
Mr. Potato Head
-
-
a shopping spree at the
mall
On the way home after I picked them up, they chattered about a whole
bunch of other unconventional excursions and creative activities. My
car was instantly filled with great memories, silly songs, and huge
smiles. So much summer is squeezed into one week. My girls loved
this!
Does this sound like a cool place to send your kids?
Bet you've never heard of Camp Auntie Fish…
Well, actually, it doesn't surprise me, because this camp is
invitation-only. Letters are only sent to a very small number of
campers. You have to know someone to get in. In fact, the letter is
only sent to girls who are related to Pinneys.
My girls are blessed to have an aunt and uncle who create a totally
custom camp experience just for them. Each year they include new
activities as well as the girls' old favorites.
As you might imagine, "away camp" can also provide a retreat for
the parents too.
When my kids are away:
-
I don't
have to tell anyone what to do
-
I have so
much less housework to do
-
I can go
for a walk under the stars
So how is summer camp related to newsletters?
If you have someone helping you with your newsletters,
your life can be a lot like going to summer camp.
-
Be the
camper. You get to kick back, play, and do the things you like to
do during the summer. You don't have to be strapped to your computer
writing. You don't have to worry that marketing is always the 12th on
your list of ten things to do. When you're not consumed by having to do
it all, you can focus on the fun. Let the boring adult stuff go and be
the kid again.
-
Newsletters
are like campfire stories. Imagine a warm, summer night. The scent
of citronella is in the air. You collect some sticks for s'mores and
people start to gather. They sit around the fire ring and wait for you
to begin. You are the master storyteller. They wait with baited breath
to hear you. They hang on your every word. You have their attention.
-
Do
crafts without the messy glue. So what if you're not into creative
marketing? What if "playing with marketing" is about as exciting as
getting your hands all sticky and goopy with glue? What if someone
could take your ideas, color them, frame them and get them ready for
your audience? We could call that your art show.
-
Get
cooking camp style. Camp food is simple. But why does it seem so
complicated to do your newsletter? It's because you either a) haven't
done this before, or b) don't know what ingredients are available to
you. We all need an expert to get us started with simple recipes.
-
The
dinner triangle is ringing. When you're at camp, there's a schedule
and a rhythm to the day. And thankfully, there's someone to gently
remind you that it's your night for KP duty. I remind my clients when
it's time to get started cooking on this month's edition (ringing the
dinner triangle can really get someone's attention!).
Imagine
taking a vacation from your Enewsletters.
If you said "wahoo" (to yourself or outloud), I have a few open spaces
and I am now accepting enrollment in our fall camp programs.
